Dear Students, Faculty and Visitors,

It is with sincere warmth that I welcome each one of you to our College.

At the very outset, I would like to acknowledge the debt we all owe to the visionaries who established this institution back in 1978. Their foresight gave this region something it did not yet have, and everything we do today still rests on that foundation. I am equally grateful to the principals who came before me and led the College in right direction, to the teachers who have given this College its character, to the non-teaching staff whose steady work keeps it running, and to every student — past and present — who has been part of its story.

Govt. Saiha College happens to be the only institution of higher learning in the entire district, and that distinction brings its own set of difficulties. Chief among them is a simple but demanding reality: we are expected to deliver strong outcomes without the choice of being selective at the point of entry. As the sole college serving the whole of the Mara Autonomous District Council and part of the Lai Autonomous District Council, we cannot afford cut-off marks, rigid eligibility criteria, or strict admission timelines. In practice, this College often becomes the last available option for students who have nowhere else to turn — and we accept that responsibility fully.

What makes this possible is a faculty that has never let those constraints become excuses. Guided by our motto, TO GRADE UP, our teachers have met every challenge head-on, and over the years this commitment has produced a long line of alumni who have gone on to do genuinely meaningful work. I say this not out of pride alone, but because I have come to believe deeply that education is one of the most powerful tools we have for social change. It does more than train professionals — it shapes citizens who are alert to the world around them, sensitive to others, and willing to act responsibly. If properly done, education turns self-interest into something larger: a concern for the common good, and eventually, a kind of quiet nobility of character. It is precisely because of this that we place as much weight on discipline, integrity, and habits of thought as we do on academic performance itself.
