The Department of Education is one of the oldest departments which started with only Pre-University level in 1978. It introduced its degree Pass and Honours Courses from the academic sessions 1980-81 and 1996-97, respectively. With the implementation of NEP 2020, starting in the 2023 academic session, the Department now offers both Major and Minor undergraduate courses.
Over the years, the Department has produced many graduates including some top-rankings. To uphold this standard, the department is dedicated to fostering academic excellence through a supportive, accountable and stimulating learning environment.

To help students acquire extensive knowledge, deep understanding and insight about educational concepts, ideas, methods and applications.
To foster a community of academic excellence and prepare students for higher studies and research by imparting quality knowledge and cultivating scientific temper and enthusiasm for research.
To cultivate critical and independent thinking among students so as to enable them to create new ideas, skills, etc. and apply them in real-life situations.
Programmes and Curriculum
The Department offers a 3 – Year Bachelor’s Degree of 120 credits with a major in Education aligned with the Mizoram University curriculum framework.
The curriculum provides students with opportunities to study various areas of education, such as the psychological, philosophical and sociological foundations of education along with issues and trends in contemporary Indian education, research methodology in education, early childhood care and education, special education, educational technology, planning and management, higher education, mental health and hygiene, and life skillseducation.
The curriculum also integrates the study of minor subjects with multidisciplinary and value-added courses for the holistic development of students.
Curriculum delivery is primarily conducted through lectures, supported by classroom discussions, presentations, assignments and other appropriate methods.
