About the Department of English

The Department of English at Government Saiha College provides undergraduate education in English language and literature. The Department introduces students to a wide range of literary works, genres, literary traditions, and approaches to the study of language and literature. It aims to develop students' proficiency in English while encouraging them to engage thoughtfully with literary texts and diverse cultural perspectives.

Through classroom instruction, discussions, presentations, literary activities, and other academic engagements, the Department seeks to create an environment in which students can strengthen their communication skills, intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and appreciation of literature.

Programmes & Curriculum

The Department offers English as a Major subject at the undergraduate level in accordance with the curriculum prescribed by the affiliating university and the academic framework followed by the college.

The curriculum provides students with opportunities to study English language, poetry, prose, drama, fiction, literary criticism, and other areas of literary and language studies. Teaching is supported by lectures, textual analysis, classroom discussions, presentations, assignments, and other learner-oriented approaches.

The Department also contributes to the relevant Minor, Ability Enhancement Course (AEC), Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Value-Added Course (VAC), and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) components of the undergraduate programme, as applicable.
