The Department of Political Science was set up as one of the Departments of Government Saiha College with the establishment of the College in 1978. The Department provides undergraduate education in Political Science, Political theory; Political ideology and State politics. The Department introduces students to a wide range of international politics, state politics, political concepts, theories of philosophers, and international major political systems. It aims to create an atmosphere of interesting learning; aims to sharpen interactive skills of students, providing students with the required political science knowledge to face challenges ahead and also aims to promote high level of participation of students in class room teachings..
Through classroom instructions, discussions and presentations and other academic activities, the Department seeks to promote an environment in which students can strengthen and develop their intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and habit of reading and develop more interest in learning.

Programmes & Curriculum
The Department offers Political Science subject as a Major subject at the undergraduate level in accordance with the curriculum prescribed by the affiliating university and the academic framework followed by the college.
The curriculum contains International relations, western and Indian political thought, political theory and ideology, international political systems, state politics and Mizoram politics and so on.
The Department also contributes to the relevant Minor, Ability Enhancement Course (AEC), Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Value-Added Course (VAC), and Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) components of the undergraduate programme, as applicable.
