National Sports Day Celebrations at Govt. Saiha College

1. Introduction
In compliance with the directives from the Governor’s Secretariat and the Higher & Technical Education Department, Government Saiha College organized sports activities on the occasion of National Sports Day 2026. The event was conducted by the college’s NSS (National Service Scheme) unit on Saturday, 29th August 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the college campus.

National Sports Day is celebrated annually on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player. The Government of India, through the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, had initiated nationwide celebrations including the “Khelo India Dialogue – Khel Ki Baat, PM Modi Ke Saath” program. In Mizoram, various institutions organized events to encourage students and young athletes to embrace sportsmanship and fitness.

2. Event Details
The NSS unit of Government Saiha College organized volleyball and basketball matches for both boys and girls. The event was held on the college premises from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Students from various departments participated enthusiastically in the matches, showcasing their sporting skills and team spirit.

4. Participation and Outcome

5. Conclusion
The National Sports Day celebration at Government Saiha College successfully fulfilled the objectives set forth by the Higher & Technical Education Department and the Governor’s Secretariat. The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their athletic abilities but also reinforced the message of fitness and sportsmanship among the youth. The NSS unit’s initiative in organizing the volleyball and basketball matches contributed to fostering a culture of sports and physical well-being within the college community.

Teachers’ Day Celebration at Government Saiha College

The Students’ Union of Government Saiha College celebrated Teachers’ Day on 3rd September 2026 at the Seminar Hall as a heartfelt gesture of respect, gratitude, and appreciation for the teachers of the college. The programme was chaired by Bony Khithie, General Secretary of the Students’ Union.

As part of the celebration, students presented a special song and recited poems in honour of the teachers. Adding to the warmth of the occasion, the students expressed their appreciation by showering the teachers with special gifts and sharing a Teachers’ Day cake.

The celebration was marked by a spirit of gratitude and affection. The teachers were deeply delighted by the thoughtful gestures of the students and expressed their sincere appreciation for the love and respect shown to them.

Khelo India Samvaad & Viksit Bharat Quiz Programme

Introduction
In compliance with the directives issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and subsequent communications from the NSS Cell, Mizoram (Memo No. B.16028/1/2020 – SYS (NSS) dated 21st August 2026), the NSS Unit of Government SaihaCollege organised the Khelo India Samvaad – “Khel Ki Baat PM Ke Saath” programme on 27thAugust 2026, in the Seminar Hall of the college.

The programme was also aligned with the larger framework of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2027, which commenced with the nationwide Viksit Bharat Quiz, open to youth aged 15–29 years on the MY Bharat portal from 17th August to 30th September 2026.

Programme Schedule
The programme commenced at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall, Government SaihaCollege, Siaha.

Virtual Address by the Hon’ble Prime Minister
Students, along with NSS Programme Officers, gathered to witness the live virtual address by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who addressed youth across the nation as part of the National Sports Day 2026 celebrations. The address was received via the central live feed, in accordance with the nationally synchronised format prescribed by MY Bharat Headquarters.

The session included:
• Screening of the MY Bharat and sports achievement montage
• Welcome address by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports
• A short film on National Sports Day
• Address by the Hon’ble Prime Minister

Local Segment
Following the Prime Minister’s address, the local segment of the programme was conducted, which included:

1. Address by mr. Ng Lawrance Zosia: Mr. Zosia delivered an inspiring speech, sharing his perspectives on sports, youth development, and the vision of Viksit Bharat.

2. Yuva Samvaad: An open interaction segment where young participants articulated their ideas, perspectives, and aspirations on themes related to sports, youth development, and nation-building.

3. Viksit Bharat Quiz Promotion: The Viksit Bharat Quiz was promoted among the participants, encouraging students to register on the MY Bharat portal (https://mybharat.gov.in) and participate in the quiz using the referral code DJZB6DQ6 as communicated by the NSS Cell, Mizoram.

Observations and Challenges
Power Outage: The programme was temporarily disrupted due to a power outage in the town during the proceedings. However, the session resumed promptly and was conducted successfully without compromising the overall objectives of the programme.

Participation: Students showed keen interest and actively participated in both the virtual address and the subsequent Yuva Samvaad segment.

Conclusion
The Khelo India Samvaad programme at Government Saiha College was a significant step towards engaging the youth of Mizoram in the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. Despite the minor disruption caused by the power outage, the programme achieved its objectives of:

Connecting youth with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision for sports and nation-building.

Providing a platform for youth to articulate their ideas and aspirations.

Promoting the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2027 and encouraging student participation in the nationwide quiz.

The NSS Unit remains committed to such nation-building initiatives and looks forward to organising more such programmes in the future.

Freshers’ Social and Graduates’ Felicitation, Govt Saiha College

Govt. Saiha College organised its annual Freshers’ Social and Graduates’ Felicitation Programmeon 18th August 2026 at the College Seminar Hall. The event was conducted in two sessions with the objective of welcoming newly admitted students and honouring graduates for their academic achievements.

The first session was graced by Pu M. Laikaw, Chief Executive Member, MADC, Siaha, as the Chief Guest, and Pu Vanlaltlanchhunga, Former Associate Professor, Govt Saiha College, as the Guest of Honour. The programme was compered by Mr. Sizahria Zawro, Vice President, Students’ Union, 5th Semester, Department of English. A total of 170 freshers were formally inducted into the college community. The administration encouraged them to pursue their studies with diligence and to contribute positively to the academic and cultural life of the institution. As part of the Graduates’ Felicitation, 40 students who successfully completed their degrees were honoured with mementos. 

Academic excellence awards were also conferred:

  1. Aftab Proficiency Award for Overall Topper: Baros Chhatha Chozah, Department of History
  2. Joseph L. Chinzah (L) Memorial Award for Best in Mizo: Dony Lalruatpuia
  3. M. Laipha (L) Memorial Award for Best in Political Science: HC Beirathie

Departmental toppers from History, Education, English, and Sociology were also recognised.The dignitaries addressed the gathering and emphasised the role of students as representatives of the college. They urged both graduates and continuing students to uphold academic integrity and strive for excellence. 

Cultural presentations by the Hraisua Cultural Club, GSC, including traditional dances ‘Khocheino Lâ’ and ‘Awkhypa Lâ’, added to the significance of the occasion. The College Magazine 2025-2026 was also officially released by the Chief Guest, following an address by the Editor, Lalnunpuia.

The second session was student-centric and featured a variety programme comprising solo performances and special items from various departments and semesters. The session concluded with the announcement of Fresher’s Miss and Mister 2026:
